Nurse Jane Goes To Hawaii

If We Are Women

About the Play

When Vivien Bliss, writer of Harlequin Romance novels, comes to spend a romantic weekend with respectably married school teacher Edgar Chisholm, she starts a train of events which involves all the classic elements of farce confused identities, disguise, long lost relatives, ambushes, chases and glorious mayhem. How Vivien gets her new novel finished in the face of, behind the back of, in spite of and with the help of an advice columnist, a nosy reporter, a doctor in panty hose, an orphan with a cake and Helga the evil Russian physicist, is the story of this hilarious play.

Nurse Jane Goes To Hawaii is produced by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals (Samuel French)

DIRECTOR’S NOTES
I had some reservations when I was asked to direct this play. Farce is usually associated with the Brits and the French, but Nurse Jane is a well-written Canadian farce, with all its traditional elements. Any play has its challenges, but farce has more than most. Timing and teamwork are paramount, and we have been fortunate to have a cast, and supporting crew, that has met this need superbly. Take it for what it is, pure, zany, surface comedy with no underlying message. Sit back, relax and enjoy! That is, if you can follow the crazy and improbable coincidences and relationships – Clive Sanders

Clive Sanders Director – It’s been a long theatrical road since Clive directed his first play in 1970 (Billy Liar for The Oakville Players). Over the last few years, Clive has directed Having Hope At Home, The Trouble With Richard, Death By Chocolate and Anniversary for NVCP, and was on-stage in The Murder Room. He’s delighted to be directing another Canadian comedy with a superb cast and crew.
Clare Froud Vivien Bliss – Clare first began treading the boards within community theatre back in the UK, where credits include: Gwendoline in The Importance of Being Earnest, Poopay Dayseer in Communicating Doors and Miss Julie in Miss Julie. Since moving to Canada she has been fortunate to become a part of North Vancouver Community Players. Most recently she was seen playing the part of Alice in the exciting thriller Snake in the Grass. Clare is grateful for the opportunity to be involved in this challenging fast-paced farce alongside a wonderfully talented cast and crew.
Mitchell Mackay Bill Scant – Mitchell began his association with the club as a Panto Dame, appearing in many productions, most recently as Dame Wanda Wave in last season’s hit production of Rapunzel. While wearing trousers, he played the double roles of Edgar Hollister and Constable Abel in The Murder Room. This year, being the control freak he is, Mitchell designed and directed Snake in the Grass because, as we all know, More is More!
Meghan McGuinness-Gill Betty Scant – Drama Teacher by day and theatre enthusiast by night, Nurse Jane Goes to Hawaii marks Meghan’s 20th production with NVCP! Highlights include: Are You Being Served, She Stoops to Conquer, Bea’s Niece and Lock Up Your Daughters. Thank you to a fabulous cast and crew for making Nurse Jane such an awesome experience! Special thanks to her family, friends and husband, Nick, for their never-ending support and cooking abilities! Bridge anyone?
Michael Morabito Edgar Chisholm – Michael joined NVCP over 20 years ago appearing in the three-hander Neil Simon comedy Star Spangled Girl. His recent NVCP productions include Kitchen Witches, The Murder Room, and Moon Over Buffalo. Michael also helps backstage as one of NVCP’s “ladder monkeys” helping hang lights for the lighting designers. Michael has also appeared in shows elsewhere on the North Shore including: The Entertainer (Theatre West Van), Noises Off (First Impressions Theatre), and The Dresser (Presentation House). Enjoy the show!
Mandana Namazi Doris Chisholm – Mandana is thrilled to be working with this fantastic cast and crew! Previous credits on the North Shore: for NVCP, The Murder Room and Wrong Turn at Lungfish; for Deep Cove Stage Society, These Shining Lives (Theatre BC Zone Festival Award Best Actress) and Leading Ladies; for Theatre West Van, You Can’t Take It With You and The Farndale Avenue….Murder Mystery (Theatre BC Zone Festival People’s Choice and Best Actress Awards). Mandana thanks Clive for this juicy role and her two special guys for letting her go out and play!.
Nick Palidwor Peter Prior – Nick is very excited to be back at Hendry Hall. He thanks Clive for letting everyone have so much fun, thanks the wonderful crew that works so hard, and the rest of the cast for making great memories with him. Nick has previously appeared with NVCP in The Drawer Boy, Bluff, and Moon over Buffalo. Other credits include: Leading Ladies (Deep Cove Stage Society), Living Together (Theatre West Van) and Panto of the Rings. Nick would most like to thank his family and wife (one year and counting) for their love and support.
Natalie Talson Peggy Scant – Natalie is extremely grateful to be diving into her first ever theatre performance with the amazing team of Nurse Jane. Natalie had a musical theatre childhood, and spent many of her adolescent years modelling overseas. She then found her way into the youth counselling field. Through her work teaching kids about self-esteem and empowerment, Natalie rediscovered her passion for artistic expression and recently found her way back into the arts, delving into acting, spoken word poetry, and stand-up comedy.
