DIRECTOR’S NOTES
Checkout Girls is one of the rising tide of musicals which relies on popular music rather than a purpose-written score. It is a wittily written story of love and loss in which characters recognize the importance of living for tomorrow and following their dreams, but its tongue-in-cheek approach doesn’t lessen the importance of its messages. – Don Briard

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Welcome to another wonderful evening of live theatre.  A production sure to put a smile on your face and start your feet ‘a-tapping.  You may even want to sing along a bit! – Alison Jopson

Don Briard Director – Don’s love affair with musical theatre started over 30 years ago while he was doing his MFA in directing at UBC. Since then he has directed more than 20 musicals ranging from You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown (his first) through the Rogers and Hammerstein classics, to Fiddler on the Roof, Godspell, and The Wiz. He has directed at high schools, Theatre in the Park, GVOS, and UBC and is very happy to be working with such a wonderful musical director, cast and crew.
Peter Zednik Musical Director/Choreographer – Peter worked in theatre for 25 years as an actor, musician, musical director, choreographer and playwright. He also served as General Manager of Vancouver’s Green Thumb Theatre for 14 years, and served a term as President of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres. He is currently directing Aladdin for the Theatre at Hendry Hall and previously acted as co-director, musical director and choreographer for Beauty and the Beast.
Lesley Scholton Accompanist – Lesley is a highly skilled and versatile musician who has accompanied many stage productions in and around Vancouver.  She is an expert improviser and studio musician, as well as an accomplished lounge entertainer.  Her unique piano stylings caught the attention of London Drugs who recently commissioned five custom CDs of Lesley’s instrumental arrangements. Lesley is thrilled to be working with the fabulous cast and crew of Checkout Girls.
Matt Briard Malcolm – Matt has been a musical theatre fan since his father hauled him to rehearsals in a snowsuit.  Since attending the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, he has performed for Theatre in The Park (Jesus Christ Superstar); Downstage Right (Rocky Horror Show); and Aquarian Productions (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat).  He is happy to be back on stage with a great cast and crew.
Barb Brolly Pam – Barb has been acting, singing and music directing on the Vancouver musical/community theatre scene for over 20 years. A recipient of two musical theatre “Ovation” award nominations, theatre credits include Hello Dolly!, The Music Man and Grease (Theatre Under the Stars), My Fair Lady (Gateway Theatre), Metrospective (Metro Theatre), 70 Girls 70 and Follies (Applause! Musicals in Concert), and Lock Up Your Daughters (North Vancouver Community Players).
Camille Johnson Shelley – A graduate of the Canadian College of Performing Arts, Camille has performed in several productions on the North Shore such as Lock Up Your Daughters (NVCP) and Over The River and Through The Woods (NVCP).   Other credits include The Greeks (CCPA), Panto of the Rings and Panto Wars (Holiday Pantomime Productions).  Many thanks go to her family and friends, especially her parents and Nick for their never ending support. Enjoy the show!
Jessica Kelly Shaz – Jessica is having a great time playing Shaz in her debut production with Theatre West Van. A graduate of Capilano University’s Musical Theatre Program, she is lucky enough to spend her time acting and teaching children dance and musical theatre. Some memorable credits include Linda in The Wedding Singer the Musical, Taylor in High School Musical 2, Martha in High School Musical, Snail in A Year With Frog and Toad and Germaine Lauzon in Les Belles Soeurs.
Barb LaBounta Sylvia – Favourite roles while living in New York City include Googie Gomez in The Ritz and Pegeen Mike in Playboy of the Western World, and featured dance roles in Oklahoma and Mame.  While living in Atlanta, highlights were Maggie in The Shadow Box and Jennie in Chapter Two.  She will be appearing next in a production of The Laramie Project.   Special thanks to her family for supporting her return to the stage after 20 years.
Natalie Schreiber Tammy – Natalie has been performing since childhood, and returned to pursuing theatre in 2009. She was recently seen in Specc-tacular Production’s pantomimes of Cinderella (chorus), The Wizard of Oz (chorus) and Beauty and the Beast (Madame Flutterby). She is thrilled to be in the cast of Checkout Girls and thanks everyone involved for their dedication to such an amazing show!
